Last year I noted that Sam Mugisha had been freed by the Rwandan prison system. This turned out to be wrong as Archbishop Mbanda was quick to point out to George Conger.
Now according to news coming out of Rwanda it sounds like Bishop Mugisha has been cleared of the last charge against him and is free. The Bishop was released with “immediate effect,” allowing him to return to his family. Following his release, he was able to spend the night at home with his family.
His imprisonment caused an uproar within the Rwandan Anglican Church, as reported here and by the Living Church. GAFCON has stayed silent on this matter to date, although I wonder if it contributed to the strange decision to move to conciliar leadership. Inside Rwanda it is unlikely that Mugisha can do anything to get justice from Abp Mbanda, but it has to be tense behind the scenes.
