A choice selection of responses to the accusations against Archbishop Wood

Steve can fill a room with his energy and optimism. He’s a natural storyteller—sometimes too much so. I’ve been with him when, in the course of ‘catching up’, he will share a detail or an observation that probably should have remained unsaid. – David Roseberry

And we should all be thankful the ACNA has the structures in place to accomplish an investigation and to render opinions and findings. – David Roseberry

…no one is attempting to cover anything up. This is all playing out with total transparency among Christian clergy and laity striving to remain faithful. – Bryan Hollon

Now, we must absolutely not rush to judgment…But we can trust that a just process is being established. This process deserves our prayers and patience. Bryan Hollon

…you will see critics on social media use these Washington Post stories and the ongoing disciplinary cases as occasion to attack the ACNA. They are and will continue to be… merciless. – Bryan Hollon

It seems that crisis after crisis is threatening to destroy the Anglican Church in North America. Many of us are nauseated by it all. That sickness of stomach has been one of many of my own reactions. We are at the very least concerned, if not frightened at what the future may hold. Some of us are concerned with being affiliated with the ACNA. – Bishop Jacob C. Worley

I encourage all of us to stand by our shared conviction that the most adequate forum for the Church to pursue justice and fairness for both the accused and the accuser is the system of jurisprudence which is codified in our Canons. – Bishop Jacob C. Worley

Please refrain from enflaming the situation through social media. – Bishop Jacob C. Worley

It is important that we refrain from online comments, arguments, speculations, or opinions. – Bishop Alan Hawkins, Bishop Paul Donison, Bishop Quigg Lawrence, Bishop Steve Breedlove

Thirdly, the Post article pointed out past disciplinary actions by the ACNA as if we are somehow corrupt. But the fact that these clergy were disciplined and some deposed demonstrates that our disciplinary processes actually have worked. – Former Archbishop Foley Beach

Regardless of the truth of any allegations, our witness and credibility are impaired by the turmoil in our province. Many will find it disheartening and confusing, making it difficult to have confidence in leadership. – Bishop Alex W. Cameron

The Washington Post article implies that ACNA attempted to block the presentment based on formalities, specifically a desire that the endorsers of the presentment re-sign the statement attesting to the truth of the allegations “under penalties of perjury.”  This is the typical standard for any sworn statement. However, Chancellor Bill Nelson, in consultation with the College of Bishops, has acknowledged that no rigid formulation of the oath is required and, in particular, that it does not need to include the phrase “under penalties of perjury.” – Bishop Phil Ashey

Avoid speculation and refrain from comment…If asked by parishioners, affirm that the Church is following the proper processes…redirect conversations from anxious rumor to prayers…Do not get swept into speculation. Do not get caught up in online angst… – Bishop Chip Edgar

I unequivocally, categorically, and emphatically deny in their entirety the accusations made against me by Ms. Claire Buxton, who was employed at St. Andrew’s. – Archbishop Wood
